Dr. Chon has received his Ph.D. degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from The Florida State University in 2001. He was also a South Korean Army officer and stationed in DMZ area. Dr. Chon has taught various criminology and criminal justice courses before he joined AUM in Fall, 2011. Dr. Chon's research interests include cross-national study of homicide, violence against women, and fear of crime. His recent research works have appeared in prestigious journals in criminology and women's studies, such as Justice Quarterly, Crime & Delinquency, Homicide Studies, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and Journal of Family Violence.

Dr. Chon actively plays tennis for local leagues. He has a wife and two sons.
